Trombocitopenia é abordada no Centro de Estudos do ILMD
O Centro de Estudos do Instituto Leônidas e Maria Deane (ILMD/ Fiocruz Amazônia) ofereceu nesta sexta-feira (24/02), a palestra “Trombocitopenia na malária”, ministrada pelo Dr. Paulo Nogueira, pesquisador do ILMD. A apresentação teve o intuito de apresentar os recentes estudos sobre a trombocitopenia, uma manifestação hematológica muito comum, reportada em fase aguda na malária.
A patogênese da trombocitopenia malária é multifatorial e envolve destruição e consumo de plaquetas. Estudos investigam que distúrbios de esplenomegalia e alterações da medula óssea estejam associados a trombocitopenia, e citocinas pró e anti-inflamatórias podem funcionar como marcadores sorológicos da trombocitopenia na malária.
De acordo com Nogueira, “alguns mecanismos fisiopatológicos já foram demonstrados: a coagulopatia, adesão e destruição endotelial; a destruição por fagocitose associada com elevação dos níveis séricos de citocinas inflamatórias; e a elevação dos níveis de marcadores de estresse oxidativo como causa de danos estruturais e funcionais nas plaquetas”, explicou.
O Centro de Estudos do ILMD/Fiocruz Amazônia é um núcleo que oportuniza encontros, palestras, seminários e debates sobre diversos temas ligados à pesquisa e ensino para a promoção da saúde. A entrada é gratuita e podem participar estudantes de graduação e pós graduação, pesquisadores, professores e trabalhadores da área da Saúde.

Paulo é graduado em Ciências Biológicas pela Universidade Estadual Paulista Júlio de Mesquita Filho (UNESP), mestre em Biologia Funcional e Molecular pela Universidade Estadual de Campinas (Unicamp), doutor em Relação Patógeno Hospedeiro pelo Instituto de Ciências Biomédicas da Universidade de São Paulo (USP), e pós doutor em biologia da relação patógeno hospedeiro pela Universidade do Mediterrâneo, Marselha (França).
Atua na área de Imunologia, com ênfase em receptores celulares, anticorpos, biologia molecular e clonagem gênica para expressão de antígenos recombinantes. É coordenador do Programa de Pós-Graduação Stricto Sensu em Biologia da Interação Patógeno Hospedeiro (PPGBIO-Interação), e vice-líder do Laboratório de Diagnóstico e Controle de Doenças Infecciosas na Amazônia (DCDIA), do ILMD/Fiocruz Amazônia.
