For prophecy never had its origin in the human will, but pro- phets, though human, spoke from God as they were carried along by the Holy Spirit. What the author of 2nd Peter here says in link to the Old Analusis prophecies foretelling the coming of Jesus is also true concerning the scriptures of the New Testament and the Gospels.
The human motives and circumstances of their composition do not affect or diminish their divine origin and their inspiration by the Holy Spirit. Therefore, we are free to investi- gate the conditions of their emergence and formation and to find the most here explana- tion for their human origins, exploring also new solutions to longstanding riddles.
This is what I hope to show in the following short summary of my research over many years in Europe, offered to an English-speaking audience.
