On the Road is a novel by American writer Jack Kerouacbased on the travels of Kerouac and his friends across the United States. The novel was chosen by Time magazine as one of the best English-language novels from to After Kerouac dropped out of Columbia Universityhe served on several different sailing vessels before returning to New York to write.
