Human Rights Violations Against Children - seems
Alleged human rights violations by erring police personnel had made discussions about human rights a source of discomfort within police circles. Some had even mistakenly dismissed human rights as a mere propaganda tool used by enemies of the State to denounce the police and military. If understood in the proper context, the promotion and protection of human rights is at the very core of policing. The enforcement of laws and the maintenance of peace and order are, first and foremost, about protecting the rights of citizens. For example, police patrol the streets to deter criminals from committing robbery or theft. Rights are inherent to all human beings, regardless of nationality, place of residence, sex, national or ethnic origin, color, religion, language, or any other status. We are all equally entitled to our human rights without discrimination. These rights are all interrelated, interdependent and indivisible. Launch Event of SNHR Ninth Annual Report on Violations against Children in Syria, on Jan 22, 2021If we do not take action, ICE could keep these families detained permanently or separate children from their parents.
Privacy Rule History
Sick employees are allowed to come to work, and there are arbitrary contact-tracing and quarantine practices. ICE can act on its legal authority to release all of these families together, as it has been historically done. However, ICE can also choose to keep parents detained while their children are released or ask parents to choose to stay together as a family in detention — an awful, no-win situation for migrant families. In some instances, family separation can violate the right to freedom from torture and other ill-treatment.
These rights violations are entirely avoidable: ICE has the legal authority and discretion — and especially in the pandemic, the obligation — to release families together. ICE can parole or release parents for urgent Childrwn reasons or significant public benefit. Instead, ICE is inflicting fear and uncertainty upon families and endangering public health.
