The organization consists of chapters in all 50 U. There were many influences contributing to the rise of NOW. Such influences included the President's Commission on the Status of Women, Betty Friedan 's book The Feminine Mystique , and passage and lack of enforcement of the Civil Rights Act of prohibiting sexual discrimination. Kennedy , in hopes of providing a solution to female discrimination in education, work force, and Social Security. Kennedy appointed Eleanor Roosevelt as the head of the organization. The goal of action was to reconcile those wanting to advance women's rights in the workforce such as advocates of the Equal Rights Amendment and those advocating women's domestic role needing to be preserved such as organized labor groups. The commission was a way to settle the tension between opposing sides. Betty Friedan wrote The Feminine Mystique in response to her own experiences. She was a feminist long before her book, by educating herself and deviating from the domestic female paradigm.

During this incredibly transformative moment, police brutality against Black people, although not a new phenomenon, has recently been exposed on a much wider scale than ever before. While these instances have garnered more public attention and outrage, the national discourse consistently decenters the lives of Black women and girls, disabled sisters, trans and GNC communities, sisters across National Organization for Women border, and women that exist along all other axes of oppression.

National Organization for Women type of erasure insists that we use these first days to ensure that the continued fight for BIWOC representation and the issues that affect our lives is centered in the new feminist agenda. Join us as we discuss how we can create a new frame and make space for a future where all BIWOC, Latinx, TGNC communities are liberated from persistent police violence, domination, Oryanization discrimination — whether it is on the streets or in our own homes.

The battle over reproductive freedom and access to care has been a contentious one for decades. The United States lags well behind its counterparts in other Orgabization countries in terms of access for women to health care and health status and holds the position of having the highest NNational of maternal mortality. This fight for reproductive freedom and improved healthcare for BIWOC populations impacts us all and is a fight we must all join to ensure we ALL have equitable access.
