I have decided for sure that I will be writing my paper on gentrification. I have been doing some research and I have even looked at see more recent examples of this happening in our society. I think this is an important topic to shed some light on and I am interested to see what other research I can find.
For writing project Thsme I am thinking of writing my paper about Gentrification. I think that so far we have been focusing on the positive aspects of hipsters and how being a hipster affects the individual. However, what we have not been seeing is the negative impact hipster culture is having on the rest of society. I was unaware of this phenomenon and it is very unsettling to me. I would like to research this more and see if there is anything that can be done to reverse the effects of gentrification. The music video I chose is Take me to church by Hozier. Hozier is an Irish born musician whose first EP debuted in This fits Hystsria with his career because it is ultimately the song that launched him to fame. The overall theme of the music video deals with the homophobia and gay-bashing mostly in other countries but it can connect to things that are happening in the US as well. It is quite chaotic and gives the viewer a sense of hysteria. The camera starts on a large bonfire and then shows a man who seems to be panicked. It switches back to the bonfire this time with a chained box sitting atop the flames. The very next clip shows the man hastily chaining and burying the box. It is immediately clear that he not only has a secret but that he Thhe afraid of something or someone.
After burying the box the man rides his bike to an unknown place to meet up with another man, they hug but it is not instantly clear that they are a couple. In the next scene as they are walking together we see the second man glancing around nervously. The scene again switches, this time to new character. It is a shot of a hooded man who seems to be watching or following both men. Read article couple proceeds to a more secluded spot where they are shown smoking and Tye kissing. Right after the shot of the men kissing the action and violence seems to pick up a bit.
