As condições socioeconômicas das pessoas são definidoras de seus comportamentos de risco em relação à saúde? É o que analisa o artigo Posicão socioeconômica no curso de vida e comportamentos de risco relacionados à saúde: ELSA-Brasil, publicado pela revista Cadernos de Saúde Pública (vol. 33, nº 3), da Fiocruz. O objetivo do estudo foi investigar se a pior posição socioeconômica em cada uma das etapas da vida (infância, juventude e vida adulta) está associada com o baixo consumo de frutas, inatividade física no lazer e tabagismo, dentro de uma amostra analítica de 13 mil pessoas. De acordo com a pesquisa, “os resultados apontam que desvantagens socioeconômicas na vida adulta parecem ser mais relevantes para comportamentos de risco do que as desvantagens na infância e na adolescência”.

A pesquisa, feita por Jéssica Faleiro, Luana Giatti, Sandhi Barreto, Lidyane Camelo, Rosane Griep, Joanna Guimarães, Maria Fonseca, Dóra Chor e Maria da Conceição Chagas, afirma que a capacidade e a possibilidade de escolhas saudáveis são fortemente influenciadas pela posição socioeconômica das pessoas e analisar esses dados é essencial para reconhecer padrões, reduzir a prevalência desses comportamentos de risco e diminuir a carga de morbimortalidade por doenças crônicas não-transmissíveis. As mulheres analisadas pelo estudo foram mais saudáveis que os homens, que são mais propícios aos comportamentos de risco à saúde. No entanto, quando analisada a atividade física no lazer, as mulheres demonstraram alta inatividade.
O estudo também observou que os comportamentos relacionados à saúde sofrem grande influência de contextos materiais físicos e sociais em que os indivíduos vivem. Por exemplo, pessoas que moram em vizinhanças com menos recursos e estímulos de comportamentos saudáveis, índice de violência e falta de locais públicos para práticas de atividades físicas tendem a impactar negativamente a vida em áreas mais pobres. As relações sociais também exercem influências nesses hábitos. Assim como a falta de conhecimento sobre os fatores de risco.
Num panorama geral, o artigo mostrou que os comportamentos de risco relacionados à saúde foram de maior prevalência em homens do que em mulheres e são passíveis de mudanças e dependentes dos contextos atuais em que as pessoas estão inseridas, expressando as circunstâncias sociais em que os indivíduos vivem e crescem. O estudo foi conduzido por pesquisadores da Universidade Federal de Minas Gerais (UFMG) e de três unidades da Fiocruz: Instituto Oswaldo Cruz (IOC/Fiocruz), Escola Nacional de Saúde Pública Sergio Arouca (Ensp/Fiocruz) e Instituto Gonçalo Moniz (IGM/Fiocruz Bahia).
