Among them was the former cabeza de barangay of Binakayan, the former gobernadorcillo of Cavite El Viejo or Kawit, Capitan Miong or Capitan Emilio Aguinaldo; Capitan not because he was a military captain but the title was derived from the office of gobernadorcillo or municipal-capitan. But after the successful defense of Imus on August 31, which defeated the offensive of the Spanish regiment under the command of Gen. Emilio Aguinaldo Agoncillo If this happened to Miong, the same would have happened to other members of the principalia and middle class men who speedily assumed the ranks of generals and colonels only days after the outbreak of the revolution. Reaction Paper of Andres Bonifacio and Emilio

Beyond the classroom, we need to consider the Philippines' rich cultural heritage, long taken for granted. I tend to neglect philosophizing and forget the role of philosophy in building our society. I chose to start by honoring those who went ahead of me, including those who passed on or still here, by honoring their contributions to articulating the Filipino Philosophy.

I take this work as an act of patriotism and growing as a human being. Leonardo Mercado, SVD, is among the first ones to approach Filipino philosophy through its cultural manifestation. In his classic work, Elements of Filipino philosophy, Mercado tells us that there is an underlying philosophical principle in the Filipino world-view, which is non-dualism.

His concrete example: "Our Filipino Indigenous Peoples see themselves as distinct but in harmony with the universe" p ix. Mercado distinguished three types of definition of philosophy First, Aristotle and traditionalists define philosophy as "science that investigates the first principles and causes by the light of natural reason. It is essentially subjectivistic, individualistic and elitist. Accordingly, the philosophers who are in accord with the first Reaxtion second meaning belong to the educated and the elite. He favored the third definition.

The third way of looking at philosophy is not elitist but anthropological. Cultural anthropologists tell us that every people has its own existential postulates. It is concerned with the people's world view, the reason behind their way of thinking and behaving. Timbreza's book Pilosopiyang Pilipino is grounded on life experience. We derive from life experience the people's world view. He said p. This world view in turn constitutes their philosophy. As such, philosophy is none other than the significance of the world for man. This philosophy is his response to the "why" of human life…Here are some of his examples:Philosophy of work: Nasa gawa, hindi sa salita" meaning, the measure is in the work not in the words. Philosophy of life: "Kung may hirap may ginhawa," meaning, nature is cyclical and comfort succeeds misery.

Timbreza is the first Filipino philosophy teacher I know who taught Filipino philosophy. He is acclaimed as the "Father of Filipino Philosophy" in Filipino.]
