When Hester was set free, instead of leaving the town she chose to live there in a small house. She earned her living by her beautiful needlework. The original story was written in 19th century but to even this day, this practice is common. The townspeople out casted her, called her a sinner and wouldn't allow her to touch a white bridal veil because it is symbolic to purity and being Publuc sinner she can't touch it but they wouldn't mind their own dresses, gloves, minister's robes and bows to be embroidered by her.
The story shows another dark side of the society still prevailing today i. I liked how, with patience, kindness and Ths, Hester changed the perspective of others towards her. The artwork is awesome like other Manga Classics I have read. What I disliked: 1. The way the minister acted by always clutching his chest. It was too obvious that there was something wrong with him and yet nobody inquired or suspected him except for Pearl and Hester's husband that too after 7 years of doing so.]
