In the essay, I analyzed the many policies and practices in the criminal justice system and how they have systematically oppressed African Americans. The different sentences given to white and black defendants for continue reading same crime demonstrated racial bias present when particular judges presided over criminal cases.
Implicit bias training should be mandatory for prosecutors and judges at all state and federal levels in order to eliminate unfair sentencing practices. Policies like the cash bail system put black defendants with a lower socioeconomic background at a disadvantage, forcing them to remain in custody. I wrote my essay to spread awareness to the issue of mass incarceration.
