English , Personal Narrative Overview For the personal narrative this semester we are going to be looking at stories and storytelling. For this assignment you will need to pick a story from your childhood. Ideally this story will be a fictional something that an adult told you as a child. Within this narrative you will focus on how this story shaped you as a human being. Did the moral of the story teach you something? Was the kairos of when you heard the story particularly memorable or maybe a tradition? During this be mindful of the argument that these aspects of story telling have, an example being morals of stories as an argument to do or not do something. Also consider the audience and genre choices of the stories you are writing about, but your writing itself.

I joined the paper with gratitude and optimism three years ago. I was hired with the goal of bringing in voices that would not otherwise appear in your pages: first-time writers, centrists, conservatives and others who would not here think of The Times as their home. Dean Baquet and others have admitted as much on various occasions. The priority in Opinion was to help redress that critical shortcoming.

But the lessons that ought to have followed the election—lessons about the importance of understanding other Americans, the necessity of Personal Narrative The Dream Story tribalism, and the centrality of the free exchange of ideas to a democratic society—have not been learned. I was always taught that journalists were charged with writing the first rough draft of history. Now, history itself is one more ephemeral thing molded to fit the needs of a predetermined narrative. My own forays into Wrongthink have made me the subject of read article bullying by colleagues who disagree with my views. Still other New York Times employees publicly smear me as a liar and a bigot on Drream with no fear that harassing me will be met with appropriate action. They never are.

Showing up for work as a centrist at an American newspaper should not require bravery. Part of me wishes I could say that my experience was unique. But the truth is that intellectual curiosity—let alone risk-taking—is now a liability at The Times.
