Obesity And Its Increasing Prevalence - something similar
Background: Tanzania is one of the developing countries experiencing an increasing trend of overweight and obesity among adults. Working adults have been identified as a high-risk group more exposed to the predictors of overweight and obesity than the general population. However, limited studies have been done in this group. This study aimed to identify the prevalence of overweight and obesity and its associated risk factors among health-care workers, teachers, and bankers in Arusha city council. Subjects and Methods: A descriptive cross-sectional study was conducted among health-care workers, teachers, and bankers. A total of working adults aged 18— 60 years participated in the study. A modified World Health Organization WHO STEPwise approach for chronic disease risk factor surveillance was used to collect data about socio-demographic characteristics, lifestyle behaviors, dietary practices and anthropometric measurement. The anthropometric measurement and level of physical activities were calculated and ranked according to WHO guidelines. Results: Overall, Conclusion: The study identified a higher prevalence of overweight and obesity in Tanzania compared with previous studies.Obesity And Its Increasing Prevalence - can

Obesity And Its Increasing PrevalenceIntroduction
Background: Although the rising pandemic of obesity has received major attention in many countries, the effects of this attention on trends and the disease burden of obesity remain uncertain. Methods: We analyzed data from Using the Global Burden of Disease study data and methods, we also quantified the burden of disease related to high body-mass index BMIaccording to age, sex, cause, and BMI in countries between and Results: Ina total of Sincethe prevalence of obesity has doubled in more than 70 countries and has continuously increased in most other countries.
Although the prevalence of obesity among children has been lower than that among adults, the rate of increase in childhood obesity in many countries has been greater than the rate of increase in adult obesity. High BMI accounted for 4.
More than two thirds of deaths related to high BMI were due to cardiovascular disease. The disease burden related to high BMI has increased since ; however, the rate of this increase has been attenuated owing to decreases in underlying rates of death from cardiovascular disease.
Subjects and Methods
Conclusions: The rapid increase in the prevalence and disease burden of elevated BMI highlights the need for continued focus on surveillance of BMI and identification, implementation, and evaluation of evidence-based interventions to address this problem.
