The Handmaid's Tale, Part 1: Crash Course Literature 403 Theme Of Museums In The Handmaids Tale. How does Atwood explore the theme of love in the novel ‘The Handmaid’s Tale’?
She is best known for her novels dealing with gender issues. She has won numerous awards for her works, including two Booker Prize for Fiction awards. Every month, she must lie on her back and hope that the Commander will get her pregnant. She suffers physical and emotional torture every day. Must be meek and religious. This reread was definitely helpful, although I realized that my experience is still shaped by the TV series.
The Verdict
Most of the plot serves to build click world of Gilead and show us as many of its aspects as possible. It did come at the cost of character development, but at least Atwood excels at world building. The epilogue provides some incredible information, and we get to see the future of Gilead, too.
Atwood created a dystopian world where patriarchy and theocracy turn women into second-class citizens.
Although at first the idea behind this novel seems unreal and the novel is classified as Sci-Fiit is all extremely and Thhe realistic. What makes it so scary is that all these things happened at one point in history or another — none of them were imagined by Atwood. The novel was published at a time when women were still fighting for their rights. Having in mind the current political situation and issues such as the abortion debate, it is relevant even today.
Written in a form of a diary, the novel is incredibly easy to read. Through flashbacks, we also get to see how this twisted world came to be.
The characters could be developed better, and there could have been more storylines. Still, for such a short book, the plot is quite good. Which do you prefer? Stacked Always worth browsing. Random Article.
