Sarah McPherson recaps the once-in-a-lifetime experience. Six students who identify as Indigenous or are completing Indigenous studies had the opportunity to spend time on reserved lands throughout Saskatchewan.

The students, joined by peers from the University of Saskatchewan and the University of North Carolina, gained first-hand experience of indigenous culture and history in a variety of contemporary contexts. Sarah was always interested in undertaking a study tour or exchange but was waiting for the right fit. The students attended a traditional powwow, an event for Native American people to meet and dance, sing, socialise, and honour their cultures. On the second half of the trip, the group was fortunate enough to be able to spend some time with a Metis woman, Maria Campbell.
