While we still haven't dealt with racism as a society, the election of Donald Trump to the presidency has only flamed the tensions that have been mounting for years. Part of the reason for that tension? The country as a whole continues to self segregate across race, income, and party lines. But it's not all bad on the race relations front. There are parts of Texas where there's a high level of diversity -- where people of all walks of life come together. We decided to shine a light on those places today. Using a standard measure of diversity, we ranked all cities in Texas from most to least diverse. So what city is the most diverse in Texas? The Jackson School source programs to address the issue at every level. These include programs to introduce and teach the geosciences to minority and underserved high school students; to help those students pursue a college education; Diversity in Texas to help undergraduate and graduate students succeed at the Jackson School and beyond.
A nationally recognized outreach Tecas that introduces students from underserved areas of the state to the geosciences by taking Diversity in Texas on field trips each summer throughout high school to visit geologically significant sites across the country. An outreach program that seeks to cultivate a larger and more diverse geoscience community by helping geoscience students, especially those from underrepresented backgrounds, reflect on their own path to the geosciences and present their personal stories to young people and others in their home communities.
A Jackson School-sponsored organization dedicated to increasing diversity among the students, faculty, researchers and staff members Diversity in Texas the the Jackson School so that the community more closely resembles the diversity found in Texas. Strategies include: mentorship; community building; professional and personal development; Diversity in Texas for change; and promoting diverse voices in geosciences. A student-run group within the Jackson School that strives to empower women in the geosciences, provide members with important resources and knowledge concerning issues that women face in the geosciences, and encourage diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives. GLOW promotes leadership, outreach, and community within earth sciences, impacting all Diverxity of the geoscience community. Ingraduate students founded a local chapter of GeoLatinas at the Jackson School. The mission of the international organization is to embrace, empower, and inspire Latinas to pursue and thrive in careers in Earth and Planetary Sciences.

Divrrsity currently lead the group. A signature initiative of The University of Texas at Austin designed to expand access to high-quality educational opportunities across the state of Texas. The program serves tens of thousands of high school students and teachers, in partnership with school districts and higher education institutions. Through OnRamps, the Jackson School partners Diversity in Texas high school teachers to teach an introductory geosciences course to thousands of high school students across Texas, with the majority of the students coming from underrepresented groups.]
