As an adult learner, I like to be engaged in a lesson, class, or training within the first two or three minutes. If I am hooked by a topic from the very beginning, I can be inspired and challenged to grasp new ideas and learn new information.
As I reflected on how I could start the new school year and frame this issue for my staff, in a forward-thinking approach, I decided to try something new and creative. Source the Fidst Learner in my school, I model, reflect, and challenge myself and others to new learning. On the first teacher inservice training day, I framed my vision around the idea of thinking outside the box.
Toward the end of the first day of inservice training, I asked my staff to set down their pens, keep an open mind, and listen to my request for the first day of school. I first asked them to think back to their first day of middle school—what did classes look and feel like?

First hour: rules; second hour: rules; third hour: rules. In a high-poverty building, with frequent referrals, teachers must make an effort to engage and motivate students, starting on day one. I asked my entire staff to not give any rules on the first day of school.
I have found from research and my own experience that the Lead Learner must answer the why questions to help teachers have a deeper understanding. I explained to my staff that I want students to be so engaged in the lesson they lose track of time and leave the classroom hungry to learn more tomorrow. I want all students to be excited about learning.
On the first day of school, I visited 21 classrooms to view engagement at its peak in our school.
What I observed were cooperative groups, movement, games, and hands-on activities. The teacher did not just stand and deliver the rules. It was fantastic! This new first-day-of-school approach launched a mind-set shift, which not only motivated staff but also motivated students to want to return to class every day.
By the end of the week, I had several staff members express their excitement over the results they saw in their students by launching the new school year in this way. Their excitement resulted in a staff book study on Engaging Students with Poverty in Mind.]
It is similar to it.
I apologise, but you could not paint little bit more in detail.
And what here to speak that?
Do not give to me minute?
I apologise, but, in my opinion, you are not right. I can prove it. Write to me in PM, we will communicate.
