When I was offered an unpaid internship at the White House, I was elated — until I remembered that I only owned one suit my family pitched in to buy me another. The experiences I have had in Congress and in the Obama administration opened doors for me that I had only dreamed about, but they also came with a financial burden that nearly ended my dreams before they began.
